feeling contemplative.

i read a story where a chicken has been genetically modified to live the life of a vegetable.
and where a pig also has been similarly modified to be able to talk and...WANT to be eaten.

this story is pretty obviously science fiction, but if it was true, would people then be able to eat meat with a clear conscience? i mean, the chicken didn't feel anything, so eating it would be like eating a tomato. and the pig actually WANTED to be eaten.

however, there is the initial sense of nausea and disgust. should we even be messing around with the natural order like that? isn't it morally wrong to do that? aren't there repercussions to this at all?

yet, would it be better to eat an animal that DIDN'T want to be eaten? or an animal that felt pain when going through its last moments?aren't people already messing around with the natural order anyway by just by being human and altering the environment?

anyway, this type of modification doesn't exist today.
so animals, when being slaughtered feel pain AND don't want to be eaten.
therefore i shall become a vegetarian when i grow up.
